Troubleshooting a dashboard password reset not allowed message

Issue/Introduction

You cannot reset or retrieve your password to access the Dashboard ( https://optimize.vmware.com ) and receive the following message or email message:

Your password cannot be reset automatically because your company policy does not allow it. Contact your Capacity Planner administrator for assistance.


Environment

VMware Capacity Planner 2.6.x
VMware Capacity Planner 2.5.x

Resolution

Validate that each troubleshooting step below is true for your environment. The steps will provide instructions or a link to a document, for validating the step and taking corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Please do not skip a step
 
By default, the password reset feature is not enabled for all newly created Company ID (Partner ID).
 
Any administrator on the Partner ID is able to change the policy, as well as reset the password of any user created under that Partner ID. If you are not the administrator your Partner ID, you must contact your Partner ID administrator to reset your password or to enable password recovery.
 
If you are the administrator:
  1. Confirm that the Partner ID's security policies are configured to allow the password reset feature to run. For more information, see Security policies that may cause log in issues (1005453) .
  2. Verify that the settings and rights on the Partner ID containing that user are correct. For more information, see Company ID activation settings prevent login (1005450) .
Note: If you are the only administrator for the Partner ID, and have not enabled the password reset feature and you have forgotten your password can cannot log in, please contact VMware Technical Support for assistance.
