High CPU utilization is reported/seen with vShield Manager in VMware vCloud Networking and Security 5.5.x

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

On an environment with Endpoint Security (EPSec) service installed on ESXi 6.0.x host with VMware vCloud Networking and Security 5.5.4, you experience these symptoms:

  • High CPU utilization is reported/seen with vShield Manager
  • In the /home/secureall/logs/sem-config0_0.log file of the vShield Manager, you see continuous entries made by REST API performing the Endpoint health checks similar to:

Environment

VMware vCloud Networking and Security 5.5.x

Cause

This issue occurs because of a large number of POST and GET API requests to vShield Manager from the MUX component of the Endpoint Security (EPSec) solution.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware vCloud Networking and Security 5.5.4.2, available at VMware Downloads. For more information, see the vCloud Networking and Security 5.5.4.2 Release Notes.
