Environment

VMware Aria Automation for Server 6.0.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the install.bat script of the VMware Aira Application Services, formerly known as VMware vCloud Application Director, Windows template installation package fails to install and register the VRMGuestAgent service correctly.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, reinstall the VRMGuestAgent service.

To reinstall the VRMGuestAgent service:
  1. Power on the Windows template.
  2. Log in to the Windows template with administrator privileges.
  3. Click Start > Run, type services.msc, and click OK. The Services window opens.
  4. Determine if the VRMGuestAgent service is installed and registered.

    • If the VRMGuestAgent service is installed and registered, you can manually start and stop the service correctly, STOP here.
    • If the VRMGuestAgent service is not installed and registered, or you cannot manually start and stop the service correctly, navigate to Step 5.

  5. Stop the VRMGuestAgent service and Application Services agent bootstrap service, if they are running.
  6. Click Start > Run, type cmd, and click OK. The command prompt opens.
  7. Set your current directory to cd C:\VRMGuestAgent.
  8. Uninstall the Winservice -u guest agent, if present.
  9. Install the guest agent using this command:

    Winservice -i -h Iaas FQDN:443 -p ssl

Where Iaas FQDN is the value of IaaS fully qualified domain name.

  10. In the Services window, verify that you can start and stop the VRMGuestAgent service manually.
  11. In the Services window, stop the VRMGuestAgent service and Application Services agent bootstrap service.
  12. In the command prompt, run this command to reset the Windows template to the initial state as an Application Services ready template.

    C:\opt\vmware-appdirector\agent-bootstrap\agent_reset.bat

The Windows virtual machine template should now be ready. Take a new snapshot and import it to VMware Aira Automation, formerly known as VMware vCloud Automation Center.
