Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Under Host preparation tab, you see an error similar to:
VTEP has not been created successfully on the Host.

  • When you navigate to Logical Network Preparation > VXLAN Transport > Cluster & Host > Configuration, you see the status as "Not Ready".

  • When you navigate to ESXi Host > Manage > Networking > VMKernal adapters, you see that vmkernal adapter does not have an IP address.

  • Running the esxcfg-vmknic -l command on the host CLI, you see the associated IP Address.

Environment

VMware NSX for vSphere 6.2.x
VMware NSX for vSphere 6.3.x

Cause

This issue occurs when IP address configuration data is not available on management plane of NSX.

Resolution

To resolve the issue:

  1. Navigate to Host > Manage > Networking > VMKernel Adapters > Select the vmkernal adapter with issue and remove it.
  2. Perform a force-sync for VXLAN to recreate the vmkernel with IP for VTEP communication.
