Unable to ping the virtual machines connected to the DLR internal interface from the control VM of a VMware NSX for vSphere 6.x distributed logical router (DLR)

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Running the ping command from the control VM of VMware NSX for vSphere 6.x distributed logical router (DLR) to virtual machines connected to internal interface of DLR through a logical switch fails
  
• The show arp command fails to return the expected table entry for the virtual machines connected to the DLR internal interface.

Environment

VMware NSX for vSphere 6.1.x
VMware NSX for vSphere 6.0.x

Resolution

This is an expected behavior in VMware NSX for vSphere 6.x.

To test IP connectivity from the internal interface of a DLR to the virtual machines connected to internal interface of the DLR, run the ping command between virtual machines in different subnets that are connected through a logical switch to the internal interface of a DLR.
