Resolution

  1. What is happening with VMware’s Pulse IoT Center?
    VMware is announcing the sunsetting VMware Pulse IoT Center product line.
 
  1. Why is VMware removing VMware’s Pulse IoT Center product line?
    VMware sees the opportunity in the edge moving from specific IoT use cases to broader edge infrastructure support. We are investigating how to support IoT and edge use cases and believe that they will be better served by developing our other product portfolio offerings.
 
  1. When were customers notified?
    VMware notified affected customers in March 2020.
 
  1. When were partners notified?
    VMware notified affected partners in March 2020.
 
  1. What should customers do?
    To avoid any data loss, customers are encouraged to make arrangements to back up their workloads currently running on VMware Pulse IoT Center before the shutdown date.  Customers are encouraged to engage VMware to understand how other products can address their needs.
 
  1. What is VMware Pulse IoT Center?
    VMware Pulse IoT Center is an IoT device management solution that helps a customer’s IT and OT (Operational Technology) organizations to onboard, configure, monitor, manage, and secure its IoT infrastructure from the edge to the cloud. The solution helps the customer enroll unmanned IoT devices at scale, collect telemetry from the devices, analyze the data stream to determine the operational health and status of the devices, and manage the lifecycle of software and firmware updates through over-the-air update capability.
 
  1. What is VMware doing to assist customers?
    VMware will provide minimum support (patches, no bug fixes, no new features) to existing customers until end of general support for Pulse IoT Center 2.0 on-premise customers. The VMware team would like to continue to engage with customer on their key use cases to evaluate how we might address them.
 
  1. How many VMware customers will be impacted by this?
    All Pulse IoT Center customers will be impacted by this decision. 
 
  1. How is VMware communicating this decision?
    The VMware Field are asked to communicate this information directly to their customers. There is a KB article that can be shared along with an email notifying customer of the change.  There is no plan to do a formal public announcement of this change.
 

General Product and Support

  1. When will the Pulse IoT Center v1.1 support be ended?
    End of GA support for Pulse IoT Center was ended on Jan. 18, 2020. Existing customers are free to use 1.1, understanding that there is no support per the Product Lifecycle Matrix.
 
  1. When will the Pulse IoT Center v2.0 on-premise version support be ended?
    End of GA support for Pulse IoT Center will be ended on Sept. 5, 2021 per the Product Lifecycle Matrix . VMware EUC BU will provide minimum support (patches, no bug fixes, no new features) to existing customers until end of general support. 
 
  1. When will the Pulse IoT Center v2.0 SaaS shut down?
    SaaS service will be shut down on April 13, 2020.
