Issue/Introduction
When you install vCenter Server 5.1.x or 5.5, the installer prompts you to add a vCenter Single Sign-On user or group as a vCenter Server administrator. If you install vCenter Server on a different host machine from the corresponding vCenter Single Sign-On host, and you select a user local to that vCenter Server machine as the vCenter Server administrator, for example administrator@vCenter_Server_hostname, the vpxd service is unable to start, which prevents the installation of Profile-Driven Storage.
Environment
VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x
Resolution
When you install vCenter Server on a different host machine from the corresponding vCenter Single Sign-On host, and the installer prompts you to add a vCenter Single Sign-On user or group as a vCenter Server administrator, enter a domain user, for example administrator@SingleSignOn_hostname.
