Issue/Introduction
Symptoms:
Replication configuration using vSphere Replication fails for a virtual machine.
You see the error:
Unable to create base virtual disk '[Datastorename]vmdirectory/vmname.vmdk' for primary virtual disk with key 2000. Cause: Invalid datastore format 'Datastorename'
The hms.log file, located at /opt/vmware/hms/logs on the vSphere Replication appliance, contains error similar to:
YYYY-MM-DD 10:11:51.361 INFO hms.i18n.class com.vmware.hms.response.filter.I18nActivationResponseFilter [tcweb-5] (..response.filter.I18nActivationResponseFilter) operationID=b9d7c0d7-95af-####-####-########3e0-HMS-68291 | The localized message is: Unable to create base virtual disk '[DatastoreName]VMDirectory/VMName.vmdk' for primary virtual disk with key 2000.
Environment
VMware vSphere Replication 8.x
Cause
This issue occurs when the target datastore for the replication is renamed or the UUID or LUN ID has changed.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, rescan the HBA on all of the ESXi hosts at the recovery site to ensure that they are referencing up to date information regarding the affected datastore.
