Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • The Application Remote Collector server automatically upgrades from 7.5 to 8.0 after rebooting the Application Remote Collector server, but vRealize Operations Manager remains on version 7.5.

Environment

VMware vRealize Operations 8.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 7.5.x

Cause

Application Remote Collector has an auto upgrade function that searches the VMware repository for the latest version and initiates the install after a reboot.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, it is recommended to upgrade vRealize Operations Manager to version 8.0.

Workaround:
With Application Remote Collector upgraded to version 8.0 and vRealize Operations Manager remaining on version 7.5, Application Remote Collector will continue to function as it did on version 7.5.
Note: It is recommended to upgrade all Application Remote Collector agents to version 8.0 to match the Application Remote Collector server.

Some benefits of Application Remote Collector 8.0 will not be able to be utilized while vRealize Operations Manager remains as version 7.5.
Items to note:
  • When the Application Remote Collector agent is deployed to UAC enabled Windows VMs, the vRealize Operations Manager UI will report agent installed, however the agent bits have only been downloaded.  You must log into the VM and install the agent manually.  See Install an Agent for more information.
  • Services and Java processes, which are newly added in Application Remote Collector 8.0, cannot be discovered or monitored in vRealize Operations Manager 7.5.
  • Newly added metrics cannot be seen or utilized in vRealize Operations Manager 7.5.
