Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Unable to find any Boot Camp volumes on Mac using VMware Fusion when launching a boot camp Virtual machine
  • No Boot Camp Volumes Found


Environment

VMware Fusion 8.x
VMware Fusion Pro 8.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the system fails to find boot.ini file in the root folder of Windows partition.

Resolution

To work around this issue, follow the steps:
  1. Log in to Windows native bootcamp partition
  2. Create a blank boot.ini file under C drive.
    Steps to create a blank boot.ini file:
    • Log into Windows native boot camp partition
    • Open notepad as an administrator and save the blank file as boot.ini

      Note:
      Make sure you select Save type as All Files
       
  3. Restart the Mac computer and login to Mac OS
  4. Launch VMware Fusion and create a Boot Camp Virtual machine
