Issue/Introduction

The Errors (Pkts/sec) report is showing data that is incorrect. No errors have been reported on the device and in SMARTS the attributes ifInErrors and ifOutErrors are showing 0.

Environment

All supported releases of Watch4Net/M&R

Cause

The report is set to filter on if%rrors and if%iscards. This means that the report is to take in account all the values that contain those two wildcards.

Resolution

In order to only report on packets that were dropped because they contained errors, you will need to remove the filter if%iscards from the report. You can modify the report by performing the following steps:

  • Navigate to report:

    Report Library-->Smarts-->IP (AM-PM)-->device name-->Category-->Containment-->Interfaces-->Traffic-->Interface name

  • Click on edit mode:

  • Select the report on the left tab:

  • Right click on the if%iscards filter and remove it:

  • Save the report and go back to browse mode. The report should now be accurate.

    Please advise that if you want a separate report to show the Discards Rate (packets that get dropped even if they don't contain errors), you can copy the Errors (pkts/sec) report and paste it as a child report. You will then need to remove the if%rrors filter.

  • Copy the Errors (Pkts/sec) report:

  • Paste the report as a child report under Interface:

  • Rename the report (e.g. Discards Rate). Remove the if%errors filter and save the report.

  • You will now have two separate reports for every device and the data will be much more accurate.
