VMware vSphere ESXi

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
If an NVDIMM is removed from a server, physically or in the configuration, on the next reboot, the ESXi fails to mount the pmem volumes. This error message will be logged in jumpstart.log:
execution of 'storage pmem autoconfigure' failed :  A volume extent is missing.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.0
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.7

Cause

When an NVDIMM is removed from a DIMM slot, ESXi will be unable to dynamically reconfigure the volume since one of the extents is missing. Hence the pmem mount fails.

Resolution

Format or reset the existing NVDIMMs from firmware. ESXi will create a new pmem volume.
