Cause

When patching a vCenter Server Appliance from vCenter Server 6.0, vCenter Server 6.0.0a or vCenter Server 6.0.0b to vCenter Server 6.0 Update 3g, the process might take too long due to issues with the RPM update. All services might become temporarily unavailable.

Resolution

  2. Take a backup of  "software_update.py" file from the path /usr/lib/applmgmt/base/py/vmware/vherd/base/
  3. Download 56625_software_update.py file attached in the KB below.
  4. Rename and replace the downloaded file to the path mentioned in step 1.
  5. Run the command to provide read permission.
chmod 444 "software_update.py"

  1. Perform the upgrade.
