Issue/Introduction

To resolve the File too big => number of hosts > 128. Not Supported error, reduce the number of ESXi hosts connected to the datastore.

Symptoms:
When storage I/O control is enabled and single datastore is connected with more than 64 ESXi hosts, you experience this symptom:

In the /var/log/storagerm.log file, you see the error:

File too big => number of hosts > 128. Not Supported

Note: The preceding log excerpts are only examples. Date, time, and environmental variables may vary depending on your environment.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 5.5
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0

Cause

This issue occurs because the maximum number of hosts supported per datastore is 64, while the hardcoded value is 128.

Resolution

This is an expected behavior.

To resolve this issue, reduce the number of ESXi hosts connected to the specific datastore where Storage I/O control is enabled.
