Resolution

To resolve this issue, compare md5sum or sha1sum against the correct checksum value on the VMware Download Page to check if the downloaded package is corrupted.

For more information to calculate the checksum, see How to compute the MD5 or SHA-1 cryptographic hash values for a file.

Note: The preceding link was correct as of February 25, 2015. If you find the link is broken, please provide feedback and a VMware employee will update the link.

If the checksum is correct, ensure that your computer trusts the VMware Code Signing certificate. To ensure that your computer trusts the VMware Code Signing certificate:
  1. Right-click the executable file and click Properties from the menu.
  2. Click the Digital Signatures tab.
  3. Click Details.
  4. Check for the text, This digital signature is OK.

If the certificate has a problem, check whether the CA Root certificate is trusted. To check whether the CA Root certificate is trusted:
  1. Run the mmc.exe file.
  2. Click File-Add/Remove Snap-in.
  3. Select Certificates and click Add.
  4. Select Computer Account, Local Computer, and click Finish.
  5. Expand the Certificates tree and select Third-Party Root Certification Authorities-Certificates.
  6. Check if VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5 certificate exists.
  7. If the VeriSign is not present, add the VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5. To add the VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5:

    1. Right-click the package and click Properties.
    2. Click the Digital Signatures tab.
    3. Select the signature.
    4. Click Details.
