Windows Update availability for the VMware SVGA 3D driver

Issue/Introduction

Windows Update driver distribution for the VMware SVGA 3D (Microsoft - WDDM) driver is enabled for Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1, and will be made available once the driver publication process completes. Please see Current Drivers on Windows Update (82290)
Note: On Windows Server 2008 R2, a reboot is required after the driver is installed.
 

To keep our customers secure, VMware will not be able to support environments running an OS which is not getting security updates.

Resolution

VMware Horizon View compatibility

The Windows Update distributed driver requires at least Horizon 8 2006, which is not supported on Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. The SVGA driver performs a Horizon View version check during install, and blocks install when an incompatible Horizon View version is present.
