Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Synchronizing affected replications fail and in the task pane of the replication, you see a similar error in the vCloud Availability Portal:
Unable to synchronize because there is an incomplete recovery operation for the replication. Please wait for the recovery operation to complete or retry the recovery operation.
  • In the vSphere Client, you see a VM with the name of the replication which has not been imported in to vCloud Director.
  • In /opt/vmware/h4/cloud/log/cloud.log on the vApp Replication Manager, you see a similar entry:
2019-11-26 15:41:21.201 DEBUG - [UI__b3598abf-3e5e-494a-9cbe-9219acf7d16f_Qo] [job-22] com.vmware.h4.cloud.job.C4BaseJob        : Suspending execution for task 8066f782-314b-4a6e-98f4-e224016664a2, waiting for remote task 35d1ac28-3c2a-4c7f-ba23-e87f1fb1c620 to complete

Note: The preceding log excerpts are only examples. Date, time, and environmental variables may vary depending on your environment.

Environment

VMware vCloud Availability 3.5.x
VMware vCloud Availability 3.0.x

Cause

This issue can occur when the replication was partially failed over and it was correctly registered on vCenter, but it was not correctly imported on vCloud Director.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, delete the ongoing replication and configure a new replication for the protected VM.

Additional Information

If the VM in the destination site has been successfully failed over and registered in vCenter, you can avoid a full sync by importing it into vCloud Director and using it as a seed for the new replication.

For more information on how to do this, see the Import a Virtual Machine as a vApp section of the vCloud Director documentation.
