The Policy Summary page and fetchCompliance API fails in large environments

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• UI and API calls timeout after 120 seconds
• Environment may contain Improved Virtual Disks (IVD)

Cause

This issue occurs due to the Storage Policy Based Management service running out of memory. The number of entities associated with a single policy is number of virtual machines x number of IVD's per virtual machines.

Resolution

This is a known issue in vCenter Server and vCenter Server Appliance.

Currently there is no resolution.

Workaround:
To work around this issue use the vSphere Client (HTML5).
