Note: VMware Cloud Foundation SDDC Manager does not automate the deployment and configuration of NSX universal logical constructs for cross site/regional networking use cases. However, you may request Cross vCenter NSX support on Cloud Foundation SDDC as an RPQ from your VMware account team.
VMware Cloud Foundation minimum requirements:
- Dual sites VMware Cloud Foundation 2.3.2+ Enterprise deployment configured per the VMware Cloud Foundation Site Protection Recovery VMware Validated Design guidance.
- Single Site VMware Cloud Foundation 2.3.2+ Enterprise (VMware Cloud Foundation Management Workload Domain - configured as Primary and Tenant Workload Domain as Secondary using NSX universal objects)
Perform these operational steps to maintain a stable operational environment during VMware Cloud Foundation LCM "NSX components" upgrades-patches etc.
Scenario 1
Workload Domains not enabled for Cross vCenter NSX:
- Initiate the NSX Upgrade on any Workload Domain that do not have Cross Site NSX configured.
Scenario 2
For any Workload Domain with Cross-Site NSX configured:
- From VMware Cloud Foundation SDDC Manager UI, start the LCM upgrade on the Primary NSX site first. The upgrade is expected to fail with an error similar to:
Description {"details' The secondary NSX Managere 10.24.64.40 [version:6.26.4977495] has different version with the Primary NSX Manager [version: 6.3.4]. Cannot upgrade the controller. ","errorCode"126009,"moduleName"."core-services"}
- Start the SDDC Manager LCM Update on the VMware Cloud Foundation Secondary NSX Site next. The upgrade is expected to fail with the an error similar to:
Description {"details' Controller needs to be upgraded before upgrading the Network Fabric","errorCode"128006,"moduleName"."core-services"}
- Restart the upgrade on the VMware Cloud Foundation Primary NSX Site instance, this time it will complete successfully.
- Restart the upgrade on the VMware Cloud Foundation Secondary NSX Site instance this time, it will complete successfully.
