Guest OS Customization fails on Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Vista which installed VMTools 10.3.0 or above version

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• The Windows VM's network adapter is disconnected after Guest OS Customization
• Guest OS Customization does NOT take effect
• In the %WINDIR%\temp\toolsDeployPkg.log file, you see that "[ info] Command Completed with exit code -1072365566"

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.7.x

Cause

This issue occurs when guest OS customization command fails to find Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable runtime.

Resolution

Currently, there is no resolution.

Workaround:
To workaround this issue, install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable on Windows:

1. Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26368 and download:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update

2.  Select vcredist_x86.exe to download and install it on Windows.
