Issue/Introduction
Symptoms:
When you log in to VMware vCenter Server as a user with restricted permissions, you experience these symptoms:
You are unable to view the advanced performance data charts
When using the VMware vSphere Web Client, you see these errors:
Performance data is not currently available for this entry.
Permission to perform this operation was denied. You do not hold privilege "System > Read" on folder vCenterServer_FQDN
When using the VMware vSphere Client, you see the message:
Retrieving chart data...
Environment
VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x
Cause
The issue occurs when the user does not have the appropriate privileges to access advanced performance data charts at the VMware vCenter Server level.The API call used for the advanced performance charts is queryProviderSummary.
Resolution
To resolve this issue ensure that a user has required permissions.
This issue can be resolved using the steps given here:
Log in to VMware vCenter Server, using the vSphere Web Client as a user with administrative permissions at vCenter Server level.
Go to vCenter List > vCenter Server.
Select the VMware vCenter Server inventory object.
Click the Manage tab.
Click the Permissions tab.
Add or modify the restricted user permissions and grant the user Read-Only privileges to VMware vCenter Server.
