Symptoms:
Using the Customization Specification after upgrading to vCenter Server 6.0 fails with error:

The public key in the specification does not match the vCenter public key. You have to reenter the password in order to proceed.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x

Resolution

This is an expected behavior when the vCenter server certificate is changed.

To resolve this issue, re-enter the password through the vSphere Web Client:
  1. Connect to the vCenter Server using the vSphere Web Client and log in with administrator permissions.
  2. Select Policies and Profiles > Customization Specification Manager.
  3. Right-click the specification and click Edit.
  4. Select the Administrator Password and re-enter the password.
