Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Managment software may be unable to access ESXi CIM provider data.
  • ESXi will show the 3rd party software as installed while the system log will show the cim provider was not loaded.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x

Cause

This issue is cause by vSphere 7.0 supporting only 64 bit CIM providers. Previous versions supported 32 bit CIM providers.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, remove any 32bit 3rd party CIM providers and install the 64bit versions.

To remove the CIM provider vibs, see “esxcli software vib” commands to patch an ESXi 5.x/6.x host.
