Issue/Introduction
Symptoms:
- Creating a virtual machine in the Web Client fails after changing the video settings to Auto-Detect.
- The virtual machine creation in Web Client fails with error:
The operation is not supported on the object
- The /var/log/hostd.log file contains the entry:
Video RAM size edit not supported when auto-detect is True
- The vCenter Server vpxd logs display errors similar to:

Environment
VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x
Cause
The issue occurs when the auto-detect video settings are enabled at the virtual machine creation in the Web Client.
Note: The auto-detect video setting works from the vSphere client.
Resolution
To resolve this issue:
- Specify the video settings during the creation of the virtual machine.
- Use the video memory calculator to configure appropriate video memory.
