Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Some guest OS types are hidden for VM creation on the vSphere Client, but you can select them from ESXi host client. These hidden guest OS types include old OS types which are no longer supported, or OS types that have not been released.

For example:

  • Amazon Linux 3
  • Apple Mac OS X 10.5
  • Apple Mac OS X 10.6
  • Apple Mac OS X 10.7
  • Apple Mac OS X 10.8
  • Apple Mac OS X 10.9
  • Apple macOS 12
  • Asianux 9
  • CentOS 9
  • Microsoft Small Business Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Datacenter
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Web Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2021
  • Novell Open Enterprise Server
  • Oracle Linux 9
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise 16


Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.0

Cause

This is a known issue for ESXi Host Client, and will be fixed in future releases.

Resolution

VMware recommend using the vSphere Client to create new VMs.
