Issue/Introduction

  • Unable to publish VM Templates individually. The publish button is greyed out.
  • The Publish button will be greyed out for both the [email protected] account along with all OnPrem AD Users which have the CloudAdmin role.
  • VM Templates (VMTX files) do not automatically synchronize between Publisher > Subscriber.

Environment

This applies to all VMC SDDC's.

Cause

vSphere does not support VM Template synchronization. Synchronize the Contents of a Subscribed Library

Resolution

VMC vCenters can publish entire Content Libraries and sync OVA/OVF files as well as ISO files between the Publisher > Subscriber. This requires the entire Content Library be set for publishing, optionally including authentication.

However, VM Templates (VMTX files) cannot be synced between Publisher > Subscriber.

From Synchronize the Contents of a Subscribed Library:

  • Synchronize the item that you need to use.
    • On the Templates tab, right-click a template, and select Synchronize item.
Note: Synchronization is not available for VM templates. You can only synchronize OVF templates.

Workaround:

Export the VM Template in question as an OVF Package, and then publish that OVF package in the Publisher Content Library.
