Issue/Introduction

This KB will address the supported NFS datastores that can be used for replication in VMware Site Recovery in VMC.

Symptoms:
Customers may be creating external NFS storage in their VMC environment and are wanting to use them to replicate VMs, as an alternative to using the workloadDatastore.

Cause

There is only one NFS datastore that is supported outside of using the workloadDatastore in VMC for vSphere Replication. When an unsupported NFS datastore is deployed in VMC, that datastore will not be visilbe to select in the vSphere Replication setup.

Resolution

There is only one NFS datastore that is supported for VMware Site Recovery. A customer is only able to use Faction NFS datastores for vSphere Replication - please see page 188  VMware Cloud on AWS Release Notes - VMware Cloud on AWS. Faction is offered as an MSP and a subscription to their service would be required. All other NFS datastores that are not supported include AWS FSx for NetApp ONTAP and VMware Cloud Flex Storage - please see page 31 VMware Cloud on AWS Release Notes - VMware Cloud on AWS.

Workaround:
The only workaround is to replicate using the workloadDatastore for the VMC environment. There is no ETA if additional NFS datastores will be supported for vSphere Replication at this time.

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
Customer is unable to replicate to certain NFS datastores that are deployed in VMC environments.
