Installation issue for Ubuntu 19.04 Server in ESXi

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Failed to install guestOS with ubuntu-19.04-server-amd64.iso in ESXi with AMD CPU.

    We get continuous flash in the install stage “Select a language”
 
  • Failed to install guestOS with ubuntu-19.04-live-server-amd64.iso in ESXi when creating virtual machine with NVME disk.


Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 6.7

Cause

When installing ubuntu-19.04-live-server-amd64.iso, this issue occurs due to library probert used by installer subiquity. Canonical will update the library probert.

Resolution

Currently, there is no resolution.

Workaround:

To work around this issue when installing the ubuntu-19.04-live-server-amd64.iso:

  1. Create a virtual machine in ESXi and mount iso ubuntu-19.04-server-amd64.iso.
  2. Power on virtual machine, the installer begins and hit the issue.
  3. Switch to another console with command Alt + F2, in the new console, update installer subiquity with command sudo snap refresh subiquity.
  4. Switch back to the default console with command Alt + F1 and follow the wizard to finish the installation.
To work around this issue when installing the ubuntu-19.04-server-amd64.iso:
  1. Power off the virtual machine
  2. Edit the virtual machine changing the vCPU's to a minimum of 2.
