Issue/Introduction

If a virtual machine is running on FreeBSD 10.0 OS and the VM is using only one VMXNET3 network adapter, the default NIC name given to the network adapter before you install VMware Tools is VMX0. After you install VMware Tools, the same name might get replaced with VMX3f0, which is VMware's VMXNET3 network adapter.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 5.5

Resolution

To use VMWare's VMXNET3 network adapter, configure the network using DHCP by adding ifconfig_vmx3f0="dhcp" or ifconfig_vmx3f0="syncdhcp" to the location /etc/rc.conf and reboot the system.

Note: for FreeBSD 10, The correct syntax isifconfig_vmx3f0="syncdhcp"
