VMware ESX Server 3.5.x

Resolution

This issue may occur if a virtual machine's lock ( .lck ) files have become corrupted. Corruption can be caused by a power outage or a bad shutdown.
To resolve this issue, the virtual machine's .lck files must be recreated.
To recreate the .lck files:
  1. Navigate to the location of the virtual machine's files. For more information, see Locating a hosted virtual machine's files (1003880).
  2. Look for and rename any file, directory, or folder that ends in .lck . For example, r ename <name>.vmdk.lck to <name>.vmdk.lck.backup .
  3. Power on the virtual machine. The .lck files are automatically recreated.
