Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
On VMware SD-WAN Edge models 610, 620, 640, and 680, the SFP2 interface may stop receiving packets after changing the configuration of SFP1

The following conditions must be met:
  1. The edge must be part of the 6x0 line
  2. SFP1 was originally configured as a routed port
  3. SFP1 is either disabled or configured as switched port
Once these conditions are met, the SFP2 interface stops receiving packets.

Cause

This is caused by known issue #99215

Resolution

This issue is resolved in the following Edge Versions:
  • 4.5.2 (R452-20230628-GA)
  • 5.2.0.0 (R5200-20230530-GA)
For information on how to upgrade please check the following article: VMware SD-WAN Software Upgrade FAQs

Workaround:
There are two methods to stabilize the edge again:
  • Reboot the Edge after disabling SFP1
  • Convert SFP1 to a switched interface to prevent future issues.
Note: only 1 method has to be applied.
