Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
PowerCLI Update-Entity cmdlet fails against a vCenter 7.0 Server with error:
Remediate Inventory on entity 'cls' failed with following error: ''registry.proxy.' is invalid or exceeds the maximum number of characters permitted.'.

Output at the PowerShell Command Line:

Cause

This is a known issue affecting PowerCLI 11.5 and 12.0.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in PowerCLI 12.1.0, available at VMware {code}.

Workaround:
To workaround this issue, install ESXi updates directly in vCenter Update Manager.
