VM:Backup High-Speed Disaster Recovery Option (HiDRO)

Issue/Introduction

We have a VSE guest that we include in our Disaster Recovery backups using HiDRO.  The VSE group wants to have more control over their DASD volumes and VOLSER labels. We are looking at converting them over to DEVNO MDISK statements.  We want to include these devices in the VMIMAGE backup but want to use MDISK statements with DEVNO rather than VOLSER entries.

Is this possible?

Environment

HiDRO 2.8

Resolution

HiDRO and VMIMAGE support the DEVNO operand, so, yes, you can do this.  You just have to change the VMIMAGE directory entry MDISK statements for those devices from VOLUME format to DEVNO format, exactly as you will have to do in the VSE Guest directory entries.  Of course the caveat applies that for any ID on the system to use the devices defined as DEVNO, they will need to be FREE on the system (not attached to any ID including SYSTEM).
