Issue/Introduction

During the snapshot consolidation process, you experience these symptoms:

• Virtual machines are stunned for the duration when the consolidation occurs.
• Time in guest operating system is drifted.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi

Cause

The guest operating system experiences a time drift because the virtual machine stuns during the consolidation process.

Resolution

• Enable the time synchronization in VMware Tools.
  OR
• Use Network Time Protocol (NTP) to synchronize the time of the guest operating system.
  1.Right-click the virtual machine in your vSphere Client inventory and select Edit Settings.
  2.At the top of the settings window, click the VM Options tab.
  3.Click on the VMware Tools section to expand its settings.
  4.Look for the Synchronize Time with Host section.
  5.Check the box for Synchronize guest time with host. (In newer vSphere versions, check Synchronize time periodically and/or Synchronize at startup and resume).
  4.Click OK to save.
