Issue/Introduction
To prevent a virtual machine crash due to insufficient video memory.
Symptoms: VMs with attached consoles on high resolution monitors run out of video memory (vram) and crash.
Environment
VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.x
Cause
In some configurations, the default amount of RAM assigned to the VM is not enough to support very high resolutions.
Resolution
Increase the amount of video memory assigned to the VM to 16MB.
Workaround: It's very difficult to pinpoint an exact minimal amount of RAM for users with multiple consoles or high resolution displays, so the best solution to work around this issue is to increase the amount of video memory (vram) available to the guest to 16MB.
