Issue/Introduction

The following error occurs during a recovery:
Error - Unable to copy the configuration file [VMX File] from the host to [SRM Server Path] Failed to copy file [VMX File] to [SRM Server Path]: 11 - The session does not have the required permissions.

The log file displays the following error:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[00900 error 'StorageProvider' opID=2c239465:ab45:3b9d] Dr::VmxProcessor::VmxDownloadDone: Error during downloading vmx file for VM:

--> dynamicType = <unset>,
--> faultCause = (vmodl.MethodFault) null,
--> errorCode = 11,
--> errorMsg = "The session does not have the required permissions",

This error can occur due to the timing of some vCenter and ESX operations related to renaming of test volumes.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, change the timing value.

To change the timing value:
  1. Navigate to Advanced Settings > StorageProvider, increase the hostRescanRepeatCnt value to 2.
  2. Navigate to Advanced Settings > StorageProvider, increase the hostRescanDelaySec value to 300
  3. Rerun the recovery.
Note: If you find VMX file is locked, investigate the virtual machine file locks on host. For more information, see Investigating virtual machine file locks on ESXi/ESX (10051).
