Rebooting ESXi from a USB drive fails with error: URB timed out - USB device may not respond

Issue/Introduction

During reboot of ESXi on a USB drive, the message "URB timed out - USB device may not respond" appears.

Environment

VMware ESX 4.0.x

Resolution

This is not a VMware issue. Contact your hardware vendor to determine why the USB errors are occurring.

 

To workaround this issue power off the system with ESXi on a USB drive and restart after 20 seconds. The warning message does not appear during reboots after the system is shut down completely.
