Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • vCenter Server Appliance 5.5 has an incorrect hostname
  • SubjectAltName field:

    • The DNS Name and IP address fields are the IP address of the vCenter Server Appliance.
    • The IP address fields contain the proper IP address but the DNS Name field contains the wrong Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).

  • The Advance Settings of the vCenter Server Appliance from the vSphere Client or vSphere Web Client have the wrong FQDN in the VirtualCenter.VimApiUrl and VirtualCenter.VimWebServicesUrl keys

Cause

You configured a static IP address in the Network 1 IP Address field
  • You left the Hostname field blank
In this case, the reverse DNS lookup from the IP address is not performed correctly and the hostname is incorrectly set for the vCenter Server Appliance during the initial start-up process.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware vCenter Server Appliance 5.5.
To work around this issue, set the desired vCenter Server Appliance hostname in the OVF properties during initial deployment. For more information, see Downloading and deploying the vCenter Server Appliance 5.x (2007619).
