Windows Desktop Update might not run for multiple reasons. The most common causes are:
Option 1:
The VMware OS Optimization Tool fling optimizes this specific setting Remove Windows Desktop Update Setup has been optimized, which removed this specific registry key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4340}
Resolution
This is a known issue affecting Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM)
To work around this issue, do not optimize the "Remove Windows Desktop Update Setup" setting using the OS Optimization Tool.
If the OS Optimization Tool already ran and removed the option, you can restore it by recreating this registry key:
1.Create a new String Value (REG_SZ) under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4340}
2. Set the value data to U.
Option 2:
- Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM) has a built-in template for the Windows Common Setting Active Setup to improve login time.
- This template captures the Active Setup keys to prevent the Active Setup processes from running at each login.
- If the Active Setup information of a user is captured and a change is made to the Folder Redirection configuration in DEM, the change will not be reflected in the user session.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, reset/delete the Active Setup.zip file from the user profile.
Impact: the next login of the user might be longer, as the Active Setup processes will run again. Every subsequent login will be faster.
