Issue/Introduction
Symptoms:
Customers that are using an older version of the Smarts SAM WebConsole such as 8.1.2.x should be using Java 1.6.0.x with their web browser. However customers who wish to upgrade their client PCs to Java 1.7.x to use with the WebConsole will find that this is not GA supported.
In this scenario, customer is using the Smarts SAM 8.1.2.x WebConsole and Windows 7 PC and upgraded their Java 1.7 version to the latest version. The WebConsole access no longer worked and the java debug log reported the following message:
Not all builds of Java 1.7 are backwards compatible with Java 1.6.0.x
Resolution
The customer reported that after they rolled back to Java 1.6.0.45 and restored the functionality of the Smarts SAM Console 8.1.2.x This is the recommendation from EMC Technical Support Team.
Once the Java version was rolled back, the customer then installed the Java 1.7.0 builds incrementally and found that Java 1.7.0_45 is the last version that still allows the Smarts SAM Console version 8.1.2.x to continue to attach using the browser without errors.
Please Note: The Smarts 8.1.2.x SAM Console is no longer under GA support by EMC. Java 1.7 is also not GA supported for 8.1.x through 9.2.
