Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Regular full discovery in the BGP Domain Manager takes a long time when adding a few devices at fixed intervals in IP Availability Manager.

How to reduce the discovery time on newly added devices?

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

Lite-synchronization between BGP Domain Manager and the underlying IP Availability Manager is disabled

Resolution

A new EMC Smarts driver-based mechanism has been added to detect newly-added devices automatically and import only the newly-added devices into NPM BGP.

Three attributes are introduced in the <BASEDIR>/smarts/conf/bgp/bgp.conf file which enable or disable the ability to detect new devices.

 LiteSynchronizationInterval = 3600

 EnableReconfigureLaunchedLiteSynchronization = FALSE

 EnablePeriodicLiteSynchronization = FALSE

By default, lite-synchronization between BGP Domain Manager and the underlying IP Availability Manager is disabled. Set the attributes to TRUE and restart the BGP Domain to turn on the lite-synchronization.

This is a new feature in Smarts NPM 9.3
