How to set an Interface(s)/Port(s) to TEST mode without generating alerts

By default, when an Interface(s)/Port(s) is placed in TEST mode, Smarts generates DOWN alerts for the specific Interface(s).

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

Under Polling & Threshold, there is a setting which is set to ENABLE, which is also the default setting, and that causes Smarts to generate DOWN alert(s).

Resolution

Changing the default setting from ENABLE to DISABLE will suppresses the Interface/Port TESTing state diagnosis and prevents Smarts from generating Alerts for those specific Interface(s)/Port(s).
  • From the Console attach to IP Domain
  • OpenĀ Polling and Thresholds
  • Select Thresholds
  • Select the correct AMPM (IP) Domain
  • Expand System Resource Groups
  • Select and Expand Routers
  • Select and Expand Settings
  • Select Connectivity
  • On the right pane, scroll down until you see TestingNotificationMode
  • Under that section, you can change the default settings from ENABLE to DISABLE
