Smarts IP: Topology Split Manager does not create proxy devices

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:


Proxy devices are not created during topo-split operation by Smarts IP Topology Split Manager (TSM), so single root cause analysis across domains does not occur.


Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The Smarts IP TSM attribute IsSingleRootCauseEnabled = FALSE, so proxy devices are not created. This is the default setting for this attribute.

Resolution

To address this issue and enable the creation of proxy devices, do the following:
  1. Open the tsm.conf configuration file for editing using sm_edit. This file is found in the following Smarts IP installation directory:
/conf/discovery/topo-split/tsm.conf
  1. Find the IsSingleRootCauseEnabled attribute and set it to true:
IsSingleRootCauseEnabled = TRUE
  1. Save and close the tsm.conf file.
  2. Restart the Smarts IP TSM domain
  3. Run the topo-split operation again from the beginning.
