Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

It has been reported in Smarts 9.4.1 that the CISCO Cisco C3560X Switch does not discover the fan and power supply components correctly

This is noted as using the Cisco IOS Software, C3560E Software (C3560E-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 15.2(2)E3, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)

Additionally this will cause a false alarm because Smarts is not polling the correct oids after discovery.

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The suspected cause is the current certification using CiscoStack, and from what CISCO is reporting on this device that the OID that are used are from the CiscoEnvMon MIB

The attached text file shows the correct OIDs that should be used in discovery and polling.

From CISCO.  The expected results. See below.

Object  ciscoEnvMonSupplyStatusTable
OID        1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.5

Description         "The table of power supply status maintained by the
environmental monitor card."

SNMPwalk

.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.5.1.2.1033|5377312C20505331204E6F726D616C|   Textual description of the power supply (for some reason you snmpwalk tool is not returning a text)
.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.5.1.3.1033|1|   The current state of the power supply being instrumented (1:normal).
.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.5.1.4.1033|2|    The power supply source (2:ac).

Object  ciscoEnvMonFanStatusTable
OID        1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.4

Description         "The table of fan status maintained by the environmental
monitor."

SNMPwalk

"Textual description of the fan being instrumented(for some reason you snmpwalk tool is not returning a text).
1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.4.1.2.1034|53776974636823312C2046616E2331|
.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.4.1.2.1035|53776974636823312C2046616E2332|

The current state of the fan being instrumented.
.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.4.1.3.1034|1|
.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.4.1.3.1035|1|

As you can see the SNMPwalk is returning the correct values for both FANs and power supply. The OIDs you are using to monitor it are not the correct ones. You can use the link below to see the OIDs description.

Resolution

At this time the device needs to be re certified to use the proper MIBS that are no longer valid by using CiscoStack as this is deprecated in the newer CISCO IOS versions.

The certification will updated in future release of Smarts.
