Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Problem with Smarts 9.4.0.X; when a server is rebooted the Trap Adapter, registers with the Broker but doesn t process any traps. Because it is waiting to connect to OI.

In the log you see: "SVIF-ESERVERUNAVAIL-Remote server OI-<NAME>' is unavailable"

Restarting the Trap Adapter is the only way to get it working.

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

Trap Adapter service is starting before the OI server starts

Resolution

  • this is an expected behavior in 9.4.0.0, the trap adapter will not start if the OI domain specified in the service definition (--server=INCHARGE-OI) is not registered to the broker
  • an enhancement has been made in 9.4.1 which will allow the Trap Service to wait for the OI server to start before it starts

The workaround for this issue is that:- you should start the Trap Adapter service again once the OI domain is started and registered with the broker:

./sm_service start ic-trapd-receiver

To fully resolve this issue:  you need to upgrade to 9.4.1 were the issue has been fixed.
