Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

When discovering the Cisco CRS router, the SPA cards that are discovered does not have a status.
The cefcModuleOperStatus isn't discovering the card status.

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The CISCO-ENTITY-FRU-CONTROL-MIB is used to monitor and configure operational status of Field Replaceable Units (FRUs).
It appears (with Cisco confirmation) the SPA modules are fixed SPA and are NOT recognized as FRU s.
If these SPA modules are not FRU s then, Cisco cannot get cefcModuleOperStatus information for these SPA entities through SNMPWalk.
It is an expected behavior.
A walk of the entPhysicalDescr displays the following:

$ snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 172.18.87.73 1.3.6.1.2.1.47.1.1.1.1.2 | grep SPA

SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.47.1.1.1.1.2.7154692 = STRING: "Shared Port Adapter(SPA) Bay"
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.47.1.1.1.1.2.7156312 = STRING: "Shared Port Adapter(SPA) Bay"
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.47.1.1.1.1.2.15958480 = STRING: "Shared Port Adapter(SPA) Port Slot"
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.47.1.1.1.1.2.23932305 = STRING: "Shared Port Adapter(SPA) Bay"
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.47.1.1.1.1.2.23933989 = STRING: "Shared Port Adapter(SPA) Bay"
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.47.1.1.1.1.2.40711602 = STRING: "Shared Port Adapter(SPA) Bay"
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.47.1.1.1.1.2.47922091 = STRING: "Shared Port Adapter(SPA) Port Slot"
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.47.1.1.1.1.2.49659233 = STRING: "Shared Port Adapter(SPA) Port Slot"
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.47.1.1.1.1.2.57486007 = STRING: "Shared Port Adapter(SPA) Bay"
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.47.1.1.1.1.2.58334133 = STRING: "Shared Port Adapter(SPA) Port Slot"

$ snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 172.18.87.73 1.3.6.1.2.1.47.1.1.1.1.16 | grep 15958480
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.47.1.1.1.1.16.15958480 = INTEGER: 2
$

A value of 2 is interpreted as FALSE, meaning not a FRU entity.

$ snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 172.18.87.73 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.117.1.2.1.1.2 | grep 15958480

As one can see, the cefcModuleOperStatus does not return values for a non-FRU SPA entity

Resolution

To resolve the issue the customer needs to enabled ciscoEntityFRUControlMIB on the Cisco device. The cefcModuleOperStatus can only monitor FRU entities.
