Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

The interface status is shown as "UNKNOWN" even though the Polling&Threshold setting for the host is configured correctly.

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The issue appears when the SNMP agent's AgentAddressList is empty.  This can occur when the host has only one IP address and you unmanage the IP address.  This causes the IP address to be dropped from the SNMP agent's address list, thus resulting in a empty AgentAddressList.  The unmanaged IP address can still be used as the SNMP agent's AgentAddress.

Resolution

Manage the unmanaged IP address and rediscover the host or remove the device and rediscover the device.  If you do have a script that is unmanaging the address, then you'll need to address the script.

Additional Information

If an IP address is duplicated or/and unmanaged, it cannot be included in the SNMP agent's AgentAddressList.
