Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Using a field cert and receiving a discovery error in the GUI. Deleting the device and discovering it again results in the same error

The discovery error for the device in the logs is as follows:

SWFE-E-ESNMPREQUEST-SNMP-GETNEXT Request failed: Error Code: tooBig, Agent: 10.14.4.83, OID: .1.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.4.3.1.1.490

The field cert used:

# HP Switches
.1.3.6.1.4.1.25506.11.1.229 {
        TYPE = Switch
        VENDOR = HP
        MODEL = 5700-48G-4XG-2QSFP+
        CERTIFICATION = TEMPLATE
        CONT = Huawei-H3C
        HEALTH = Huawei-H3C
        VLAN = Dot1q

INSTRUMENTATION:
        CPU/Memory = HuaweiH3C:DeviceID
        Environment = HuaweiH3C:DeviceID
        Interface-Fault       = MIB2
    Interface-Performance = MIB2
    Port-Fault = MIB2
    Port-Performance = MIB2
    Port-Ethernet-Performance = dot3_Ethernet
}

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The device was not responding to the following OID:

dot1qVlanStaticNameOID {".1.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.4.3.1.1"}

The field cert has VLAN driver as Dot1q.

Resolution

Smarts has disabled the Vlan driver through Dot1Q MIB. The base MIB-2 driver will be invoked for the Vlan creation. So the dot1Q vlan driver in the certification needs to be disabled.

Remove the following line from the certification and re-start the domain (this is necessary), then discover the device and the error will no longer persist:

 VLAN = Dot1q
