Smarts IP: Containment data is missing for AM domains connected to TSM

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:


Various devices across different AM domains are showing missing containment components. For example interfaces, cards etc can disappear from the topology. The information is always present in TSM but can be removed from the underlying AM domains

The issue resolves itself with time, though following further discoveries it can re-appear and is both intermittent and difficult to replicate

Cause

In this particular case the issue was caused by having discoveries running at the same time as topo synchs between TSM and the underlying AM domains. By default topo synch runs in parallel between TSM and the AM domains which means TSM is running multiple topo synchs at the same time which consumes alot of time and ends up overlapping with the daily discoveries. This created inconsistent information across the AM domains.

Resolution

If there are many AM domains underlying the TSM you need to cron the discoveries to make sure they are not running when the domains are synching
