Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

The following error is received during the Smarts SAM failover manager initial phase:

failover_actions:  28-Oct-2013 08:07:30 WET; activeXMLfile        = 'failover-active-sam-INCHARGE-SA.xml'
failover_actions:  28-Oct-2013 08:07:30 WET; standbyXMLfile       = 'failover-standby-sam-INCHARGE-SA.xml'
failover_actions:  28-Oct-2013 08:07:30 WET; File edit failure (remote), error: /bin/sed: can't read /opt/InCharge9/SAM/smarts/local/conf/ics/failover-active-jack-INCHARGE-SA.xml: No such file or directory
failover_actions:  28-Oct-2013 08:07:30 WET; Failover Actions complete.

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The above issue can occur if the INCHARGE-SA service on Smarts SAM server active or standby node is stopped during failover. The Smarts Failover Manager attempts to write 'failover-active-jack-INCHARGE-SA.xml' and 'failover-standby-sam-INCHARGE-SA.xml' on the active and standby nodes, if the INCHARGE-SA service on Smarts SAM server is stopped during that time, it will fail to write the XML.

Resolution

The INCHARGE-SA service should be started on both Smarts SAM active node and standby node during the Failover Manager initial instrument phase. The failover must read both Smarts SAM configurations and instrument the object to complete initializing, and then the failover should complete correctly.
